WTO and the Seal Hunt

Concern over the WTO’s verdict as to the seal hunt and the embargo over seal products is in a word baffling .

Some points to consider.
When Steven Harper was negotiating a free trade deal with the EU the embargo was before the WTO but it was not mentioned when the PM was back in Canada saying what a great deal it was. Did the PM believe that Canada was a shoe in to win and so thought it was a non-issue, did the PM think it was better for him politically to tell the provinces they would be paying more for drugs then to tell the sealing community the embargo issue was not resolved.

Now that the WTO has made it clear the embargo is just except if the seal products are the result of a aboriginal or Inuit hunt or a cull to sustain fish stocks there seems to be an uproar. A member of parliament stood outside of the house and announced how this was going decimate the Inuit way of life. How could this be when the WTO said it is OK to have seal products produced from an Inuit hunt. On the same theme why isn’t our Minister of fisheries drafting up a quota on seals to sustain the fish stocks which would then make those seals legal to sell to the EU.

Heidi sees that the EU governments did an unusual thing compared to our government in that they listened to the voters and came up with a ban on seal products. Having said that regardless of the WTO decision there would still be a very small market for our seal products because a large number of people in the EU don’t want seal products.

Like every other product when one market dries up the manufacture must find another market. It is not the fault of the EU that their population is not in the market for seal products . It is our fault for not looking for a new market.

Heidi is sure there is a market out there some place as it is a big hungry world we live in , it is not like we are hunting down Koala bears and selling them as food and boots.

Baird has no idea

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird is back at his Iranian bashing. Remember when he stood on his soap box and spewed about what a sham the Iranian elections were and how nothing would change . Never heard a word from him when there was a new person put in charge , never heard a word when talks started over the nuclear issues .

Now that a deal is in the works and the leaders of the free world think it is a step in the right direction and that the deal may hold . That is every leader in the free world except Canada and Israel. I can understand the stand Israel is taking given the rocky past between the two , but not Canada’s open condemnation of the agreement .

Baird is supposed to be a diplomat but he acts like one of Harpers back bench sock puppets. What a diplomat would have said was , Canada congratulates the people involved in this agreement and see it as a step forward to ending these nuclear issues, we sincerely hope that this agreement bares fruit. But instead Baird simply insinuated it was all a waste of time and Iran can’t be trusted .

Question is why is the CPC so against Iran normalizing relations with the west. Could it be the friendship with Israel , is it because now Iranian oil will be back on the market driving down the price of tar sands oil, is because in reality the CPC is just a branch of the tea party and they don’t like anything.

Heidi can only suggest that Baird is taking orders from someone that is not qualified to give orders and this is not good for Canada.

Shame on the CPC

Shame on the Conservative Government of Canada, for the way they are using the tragic deaths of two young ladies ,to push through snooping legislation that the country has already said they did not want.

Peter MacKay had the nerve to stand up in a public place and spew out lies when describing his new cyberbullying bill. First two pages of the fifty plus pages of the bill do deal with the issue of cyberbullying. These two pages describe in detail that posting an explicit image without permission will be punishable . What an explicit image is , is described in detail. This is a good thing as far as it goes but where is the mention of hacking into some ones social media and leaving untrue statements , where is the mention of sending hateful E Mails where is the mention posting video alluding to untrue acts.

Perhaps the missing or overlooked issues would make the Conservative attack ads illegal and then ruin the next election for them .

We have what is called an omnibus bill which contains a small percentage of good and large amount of bad. If the someone votes against the bill because of the large amount of bad in it they will forever be branded by the CPC as being in favor of cyberbullying.

Vic must be doing the happy dance because all that snooping legislation he couldn’t pass will soon become law.

And this folks is the way Harper and the rest of the CPC operate.

GTA media sinks to new low

Rob Ford and his story are not going away anytime soon, so why would the GTA media need to swarm him at a Remembrance Day ceremony . No matter how much air time or print this story is selling there is absolutely no reason to defile the memory of our fallen service men and women with a shoving match around Rob Ford.

Wait a day and go back to camping out at his office or his mother’s house or wherever . What is the matter with the media of today when they need to act in such a degrading way.
